Back in the day, I loved dancing on WOOK. I went to McKinley Tech, and Lita Gray and I were friends, and I dancing with Lita was a great way for me to look good! :-) My girl could go.

I grew up approximately two miles from SouthEast DC, in the community of Marlow Heights, Maryland, during the 1960s. I remember the first time I came across WOOK Channel 14, as the first program I saw was Teenarama. The show was broadcast in black and white, and I think many of the shows on WDCA Channel 20 were, too. As a white boy growing up in the 1960s, I was quite taken by what I first saw on the show. This was an all black dance show. I had seen American Band Stand, and Upbeat on TV. But this was different. The kids on Teenarama...wow, could they dance! I had never seen anything like it. Memories of almost 50 years ago coming back to me, on a grainy black and white TV. I commend you for the organization you created to preserve the memory of this show, the kids, guest stars, and the times we lived in so many years ago. As someone who runs a nostalgia web site, dedicated to Marlow Heights of the 1960s and 1970s, I say to you, "Keep the memories alive". Chuck Fraley www.marlowheights60sand70s.com

I watched the show as a little girl. At the age of 8, I was a guest on the show. Bring your little sister or brother. I was very excited to be on TV. My play brother who was a regular on the show invited me. His name was Butch, they called him Joko back then. He inspired me and taught me how to dance. I learned to hand dance when I was 7 years old. My house hold was a dancing house hold, everybody could dance and continue to do so now. The Chateau is the place everybody goes most.

I remember I couldn't wait to get on that bus and head towards Missouri Ave. and the year I had my birthday at WOOK the Temptations was the guest, if you can remember they use to dance with the birthday folks and that was the icing on my birthday cake. I still can see me spinning and twirling with David Ruffin........Thank you for all those memories Once again Thank you Teenarama for the memories |

Hello, I watched the Teenarama documentary on PBS this week and was extremely pleased to see and learn about this historical era that took place in Washington, DC. As a native Washingtonian, and a baby boomer I would like to participate as a supporter of your mission. Please keep me posted on events as well as organizational needs. Sincerely, Shirley |

Fantastic Job on the website (Ron Hunter). This takes me way back down memory lane from the different Scenes of Teenarama Shows with the meet and greet of various celebrities, Teenarama Regular Dancers, and Soul Train. I wish you all (BDOD) continued success and to keep up the good work.
