SPOTLIGHT: 2008 Scholarship Recipient Katherine R. Turner is our 2008 Scholarship recipient and we are very proud of her. Congratulations Katherine. She is a graduate of Oxon Hill High School in Oxon Hill, Maryland. She maintained honor roll marks in high school with a grade point average ranging between 3.0 and 3.85. She is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree as a full time student at Ithaca College in New York. Her “ultimate goal is to become a professional actress”. Over the past 4 years, she has used her extracurricular time to participate as a member of various dance and theatre companies.

I just would like to say that this summer I can go to school because of your warm and cherished love”... “my mother and I felt like family and I appreciate what you have done for me! Let me just take the time out to say that God has a blessing for each and every member of Teenarama”. I will keep you posted on my status in school and I wish this organization the best. |

"It is with great pride and appreciation that I write to you, thanking the Board of Directors of Teenarama, Inc for presenting me with the Bob King Memorial Scholarship Award. As a young Black student of the arts I too share the enthusiasm of Mr. King and others who conceptualized "Teenarama Dance Party" in the 1960's. It was through their early vision of community outreach that Black teenagers had a forum to express themselves through dance and radio broadcasting. While "Teenarama Dance Party' began as a music show on WOOK radio its vision of community outreach lives on today. I am sure that it was because of programs such as "Teenarama Dance Party" that other doors opened for Black teenagers to experience art in all mediums. Forty years later, those doors continue to open to young Black students like myself. "I am proud to receive the Bob King Memorial Scholarship Award and will continue to emulate through my work the legacy of Teenarama".

The criteria in the selection process for scholarship recipients is as follows: 1. High school graduating seniors 2. Residents of the Washington Metropolitan area (within a 25 mile radius of the Capitol) 3. Grade point average: 3.0 minimum 4. Financial need ($30,000 total household income) |
